My Spin on 10 Kids’ Movie Messages

  1. “Hakuna Matata…It means no worries for the rest of your days. It’s our problem-free philosophy”, Timon and Pumbaa in Lion King.   The way we can handle our worries is not to ignore them and pretend they’re not there .  We need to give our worries and concerns over to God because He cares for us; He will carry them for us.  Sometimes this has to be an hour-by-hour occurrence
  2. “Just keep swimming”,  Dori in Finding Nemo.  This is usually good advice but sometimes you have to surrender to God, stop fighting, and just be held by Him
  3. “No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true”, Cinderella in Cinderella.   Sometimes the dreams that we wish are not God’s best for us.  He may have something even better in mind, and that is what He’ll bring about.  We have the hope that when God says “no” to our dream, He will bring to pass something even better
  4. “The seaweed is always greener in someone else’s lake”, Sebastion in The Little Mermaid.  Sometimes other’s “seaweed” is brown and dead – this should encourage us to be grateful and thankful for what we have and to pray for our neighbor for healthier “seaweed”.  Other times, it’s greener because it’s fake and maybe even toxic.  You’re better off with your not-so-green “seaweed”
  5. “I never look back, Darling.  It distracts from the now.”  Edna Mode  in The Incredibles.  We can learn a lot from our past and from those who have gone before us
  6. Love is putting someone else’s needs before yours.” – Olaf in Frozen.  We should consider others as more important than ourselves BUT sometimes the most loving thing you can do for someone else is to “put the oxygen mask on yourself first” so you have the strength and ability to put it on them
  7. I’m packing your extra pair of shoes, and your angry eyes, just in case”, Mrs. Potato Head in Toy Story 2.  It’s good to be prepared but don’t choose “angry eyes” as your default to manage a situation
  8. “Oh, that darn paperwork! Wouldn’t it be easier if it all just blew away?”, Mike Wazowski in Monsters Inc.  It would be easier BUT you have to take responsibility and finish the work assigned to you
  9. “Only a true friend would be that truly honest”, Shrek in Shrek.  We should be honest with our friends but that doesn’t mean you should say everything you think.   For example, you should tell a friend they have food stuck in their braces BUT don’t point out the presence of the large ugly pimple on their face.  They already know about it and are already feeling self-conscious about it.  A true friend would ignore the pimple and tell them something good about themselves
  10. “I’m always with you.  Even when you can’t see me, I’m here”, Bambi’s mother in Bambi.  The only one who can truthfully say that is Jesus Christ.  We can only count on Him to be with us always

What movie character message would you add to this list (with your spin on it) ?
