I fell in love during my freshman year of college. I was introduced to him by some friends and soon after I met him, we began meeting almost every morning over breakfast. I would come down and find him waiting expectantly for me no matter what. I was so encouraged to discover his incredible love for me and I cherished the love letters he wrote me, sometimes even memorizing parts of them and recalling them in my mind throughout the day. Some mornings I would spend most of our time pouring my heart out to him, and other mornings I spent more time just listening to him. Some of the times we connected deeply and other times it was good just to hang out before I did anything else, a reminder of the life-giving relationship that we had together.
I still meet with him most mornings. My husband Rick sometimes interrupts us, but I don’t mind too much. I’m glad that Rick wants me to continue meeting with my first love and doesn’t try to stand in our way.
“Have you ever considered that you have a divine appointment when you get up early for your quiet time of prayer and meditation on His word?…that Jesus is patiently, personally waiting to meet with you there?…What a difference it would make in our attitude of expectancy and our habit of consistency if we truly wrapped our hearts around the knowledge that each morning is a divine appointment, that Jesus Himself is waiting to meet with us.” Anne Graham Lotz
“Do not have your concert first and tune your instruments afterward. Begin the day with the Word of God and prayer, and get first of all into harmony with Him.” James Hudson Taylor
